SUMMARY:7-Day Retreat w/Wayne Coger and Sandra Gonzalez (in-person)
DESCRIPTION:Sandra Gonzalez has led retreats in both English and Spanish for several years. She began working with Toni in 1988. Previously\, she studied at other meditation centers. Sandra was born and raised in Nicaragua. She leads or participates in retreats in Springwater and other locations each year. She writes:\n \nPresence invites presence when there is no resistance\, no ownership of ideas\, experiences or things\, no worrying\, no hurrying\, no judging\, no defending–just the ease of life when we meet without wanting things to be otherwise. Certainly we all can participate; presence is free and available to all of us. There is a true beauty in this. \nWayne Coger has led retreats since 2001. For more than 30 years he worked with Toni Packer\, and has been a staff member of the Center since 1983. Currently he is serving as Administrator. Previously\, he studied at the Rochester Zen Center. He says:\n \nToni Packer asked me if I would share the work that we do with others. While I have never had any desire to become a ‘teacher\,’ exploring the work of meditative inquiry has been my deepest joy and passion for many years. What excites me is this possibility to look at anything and everything freshly\, without inhibitions or strictures. It is through this open inquiry that we begin to learn about ourselves. To learn how we are when we are not bound by our ideas and self-images. \nClick here to register for this retreat

SUMMARY:Annual Meeting (Online)
DESCRIPTION:The Annual Meeting is an opportunity for members and friends to observe and participate in the official workings of the Center. Trustee terms are staggered and most years there are two Trustees’ seats that  will have been voted on by mail by the membership.  That vote will be tabulated and reported on. There will also be a Financial Report and a summary of the past year’s events. After these business items have been covered\, there will be an open discussion–an opportunity to bring forth any concerns\, ideas or questions about the Center. This is a great opportunity to share our input with each other! \nThe meeting will be held on the Center’s Zoom site. For more information\, please contact reception.

SUMMARY:7-Day Retreat w/Stephan Bielfeldt
DESCRIPTION:In this retreat Stephan Bielfedt will give talks\, be available for private meetings \, take part in group dialogue. \nStephan started working with Toni Packer in 1983\, regularly taking part in her retreats in Germany and and in the United States. Towards the end of 1990\, Toni asked him to offer private meetings with participants during her retreats in Germany. In 2003\, she asked that he lead retreats in Poland and in Germany\, and since that time\, he has been holding retreats regularly in German and in English\, and has also helped to found two meditation groups. \nStephan has recently written a book titled “Seven Days in Silence: How to find oneself in quiet meditation\,” translated from the original German by long-time Center member Robert Watson\, and with a foreword by Dagmar Apel\, a colleague of Toni Packer. The book is available on Amazon (https://www.amazon.com/Seven-Days-Silence-oneself-meditation/dp/3758325668) and Stephan has indicated that  all proceeds from the sale of the English language edition will be donated to Springwater Center. \nIn Stephan’s words\, \nI was most fortunate to have been able to work closely with Toni Packer for so many years. I seek to share with others the experience and insights of those years of meditation work\, in the meditation groups and in retreat. \nClick here to register for this Retreat.

SUMMARY:7-Day Retreat w/ Richard Witteman
DESCRIPTION:In the silence of retreat\, there is space to pause\, to slow down. Space to see and feel and listen\, to question and wonder…to be intimately here\, in the heart of whatever is unfolding. Sunlight and shadow…trees and rustling leaves…sensations\, thoughts\, and feelings. \nIn this retreat we will explore together the wonder of spacious awareness. In the stillness and silence of simply being\, of listening\, of curiosity\, we can slow down and explore the timeless presence that is so transparently here. \nAnd we will explore and experience\, through movement and somatic inquiry\, the flowing nature of embodied being. The miracle of being spacious and timeless…and so physically and intimately here in everyday life. \nExploring and opening our hearts to this intimate river of being embodied. Feeling into and being the spacious flow of life. \nOur daily rhythms will include quiet sitting\, movement and somatic inquiry\, and the invitation to walk in nature on our miles of trails. There will be daily talks\, group inquiry\, and individual meetings with Richard. All offerings are optional\, allowing you to choose what is right for you in any moment. \nThese daily rhythms provide space and nourishment for wonder\, curiosity\, and playful inquiry–space for each of us to explore and discover embodied spacious awareness in our own way. \nLearn more about Richard Witteman. \nTo register to attend this retreat click here.

SUMMARY:4-Day Retreat w/ Bob Dattola (in-person)
DESCRIPTION:Bob Dattola will give talks and be available for private meetings and the daily afternoon group dialogue in this March retreat. Bob has been taking part in the Center’s work since its inception. Important questions for him over the years have been “What is Truth or Reality?” and “Where can Truth be found?” In addition to pursuing his career at Xerox and Cornell University\, Bob has served as a trustee for many years and in recent years has been leading retreat at the Center. \nIn a retreat talk Bob gave in November 2014\, he explored listening\, understanding\, and another way of being that comes out of this presence\, this hereness. In Bob’s words\, \nIn this hereness there’s some kind of . . . intelligence that works totally outside of this thinking process . . . And it’s not just intelligence. The word I like to use is compassion. \nTo register for this retreat\, click here.

SUMMARY:4-Day Retreat with Stew Glick (in-person)
DESCRIPTION:Stew Glick began working with Roshi Phillip Kapleau at the Rochester Zen Center around 1971. He later began working closely with Toni Packer and came on the Zen Center staff in 1979. Stew played an instrumental role in the land search and initial construction for what would become Springwater Center. He spent over twenty years on staff as assistant administrator. He was one of several people whom Toni invited to continue the teaching work of the Center\, and has led retreats since the mid-1990s. Stew left staff in 2008 to move to Rochester with his wife Lisa Schwartz\, and after a few of years he began an informal weekly group for people to sit quietly and inquire together in the city. He writes:\n \nAn important ingredient in meditative inquiry is this act of open listening. Listening\, wondering and not knowing: this can all happen alone or together with like-minded people. Looking together with others has the opportunity wherein someone might point something out that we haven’t noticed or seen before. In the spirit of something Nisargadatta – an Indian teacher – once said\, in an instance such as this . . .’What does it matter\, who is who?!” What matters most is the looking itself – in which there is truly no ‘me’ and no ‘you’. Can we meet together in that spirit? \nTo register to attend this Retreat in person click here. \n

SUMMARY:4-Day New Years Retreat w/ Wayne Coger
DESCRIPTION:Wayne Coger has led retreats since 2001. He worked with Toni Packer for more than 30 years\, and has been a staff member of the Center since 1983\, currently serving as administrator. Previously\, he studied at the Rochester Zen Center. Wayne writes: \nToni Packer asked me if I would share the work that we do with others. While I have never had any desire to become a ‘teacher\,’ exploring the work of meditative inquiry has been my deepest joy and passion for many years. What excites me is this possibility to look at anything and everything freshly\, without inhibitions or strictures. It is through this open inquiry that we begin to learn about ourselves\, to learn how we are when we are not bound by our ideas and self-images. \nClick here to register for this Retreat
