This Saturday offers an opportunity to hear and dialogue with Kevin Frank, who was instrumental in founding our organization and then in building the facility in Springwater. When we asked Kevin for some words to describe himself and his relationship to the Center’s meditative work, he submitted the following:
Kevin Frank ran into psychedelics and Zen at the same moment when he was 16; he was attending a Saturday class offered by a student of Huston Smith. (Smith was a professor at MIT, had done psychedelics with Leery and Alpert, and had recently written the introduction to Three Pillars of Zen).
After some psychedelic experiences, Kevin concluded that he had lived life mostly dissociated and isolated, and Zen seemed like the only thing that might help.
A few years later Kevin went to an introductory workshop at the Rochester Zen Center (RZC); some years later he heard Toni Packer give a talk while attending a residential training period at the RZC. Subsequently, he joined Toni’s newly organized staff and then became part of the team that purchased and developed the Springwater property and constructed the Center. After the building project Kevin was dealing with persistent body strain. While taking a leave of absence from the Center, he found out about Rolfing, got Rolfed, and felt a lot better. His Rolfer told him he should be a Rolfer. This appealed to Kevin as a job where you can help people feel body presence, to distinguish sensation from thought.
Kevin left the Springwater staff in 1987 to begin a Rolfing practice in New Hampshire where he still lives and works. He teaches Rolfing practitioners and others perception based movement education. Kevin is the co-author (with Caryn McHose) of How Life Moves: Explorations in Meaning and Body Awareness. He has written numerous articles about how motor patterns, including perceptual motor patterns, can change via an inquiry-based process.
Kevin invites us to notice an overlap between somatic practice and meditative inquiry, especially in the context of human relationship.

Speaking and dialoguing at Springwater Center is different from a lecture or a discussion group where we share what we already know. The spirit of meditative inquiry infuses talks and dialogues with a sense of exploration and discovery, of being open to the freshness of not knowing. Join the program online and experience this for yourself.
Online Open Meditative Dialogues are donation-based events. To contribute in support, a donation of $10 per attendance is suggested. Please use the button below to donate, and choose the “Online Sittings/Programs” option. Your generosity helps keep online programs available for all to attend.
Thank you.
