In this retreat, Stew will give a daily talk, offer in-person private meetings, and attend group dialogues each afternoon.
This retreat is nearly full, with limited shared room space still available. Please contact the Center at info@springwatercenter.org if you would like more information about room availability.
Some words from Stew:
“Outside, the freezing desert night.
This other night inside grows warm, kindling.
Let the landscape be covered with thorny crust.
We have a soft garden in here.
The continents blasted,
cities and little towns, everything
become a scorched, blackened ball.
The news we hear is full of grief for that future,
but the real news inside here
is there’s no news at all.”
Rumi ~ 13th Century Sufi Mystic, Muslim Poet
Is it possible, for just moments at a time, to come upon what Rumi
refers to as ‘the real news’? To touch that which neither comes nor
goes, that does not change, that is indestructible? There are so many names for
that which is ultimately nameless: Bankei’s unborn Buddha mind,
presence, open spaciousness, stillness. Is it possible to observe non-
judgmentally — without the observer — that which arises in what we call
this body-mind, which in truth has no owner and is not separate from
what we call this world and each other?
In another poem, Rumi says this:
“Your task is not to seek for love, but merely to seek and find all the
barriers within yourself that you have built against it.”
This is, as I see it, our lifelong, moment-to-moment work.
