Springtime Happenings

Springtime HappeningsSpringwater Admin2022-03-23T19:02:39-04:00

There is hope in people. Not in society, not in systems, but in you and me.                                                                                       — J. Krishnamurti

Covid Update: The Center is humming with meditative guests and volunteers once again. Private rooms are still being assigned for all overnight visitors from different households. Vaccine plus booster and masking during events continues to be requested from all. Testing prior to arrival required for the April 4-day retreat.

Upcoming Saturday All-Day Sittings

March 26: Talk by Les Schaffer

OPEN for online participation.
OPEN for in-person participation.
April 9: Talk by Wayne Coger
OPEN for in-person participation, only.

To register for either event, please email info@springwatercenter.org

All-Day Sittings offer an optional schedule, including timed sittings, a talk and an afternoon group dialogue.
Les Schaffer will give the talk via Zoom at this weekend’s All-Day Sitting. While pondering, Les wrote, “As I watch the sky brighten… I scan my mind-body for stirrings… I find myself wondering… what is meditation and inquiry? How does it relate to our lives? How does its practice communicate to those around us? How do we take in the activities of others? For now I will pull on my boots and coat and walk down to the beach to see what the sun brings.”
Read Les’s write-up here.

In-person All-Day attendees often stay over as guests for the weekend or longer. Please fill out a guest request to reserve overnight accomodations.

4-Day Silent Retreat with Stew Glick
   April 22-26 (Friday – Tuesday)

Register here to be added to the waitlist.

For the first time since March 2020, the Center will return to the pre-Covid retreat format. There is much excitement to be present once again for silent retreat without technology in the sitting room.
Long-time Center Teacher, Stew Glick, will be leading this retreat, giving talks, attending dialogues, and offering private meetings daily.
Stew writes “to the people attending in person, those who may have wished to attend but for whom there is no room, and everyone else” of how a capacity for being still with whatever comes up is “a gift we can all share in, wherever we are and especially in such troubled times.”

Dates for the next in-person-only retreat will be shared in the enewsletter and on the website.

40 Yr. Anniversary

Thanks to Sally Fox for the photo of husband Chris and herself with Toni Packer at Camp Onanda in the early 1980’s. Photos, wrtings, and memories of the Center’s early years are being collected with a view to creating a special website page for them to be shared. Please send submissions to info@springwatercenter.org.

Center-Inspired Artistry

Many of you may recognize the Center pond and landscape shown in this mesmerizing photograph by NYC-based artist, Corinne Spencer.
After an extended stay at Springwater Center during the Covid closure, Corinne was moved to create a multimedia project, titled Splendor, which uses photo, video, text, and sound to explore the restorative connection between Black women and the natural landscape.
In an interview, Corinne says, “As I worked in the woods and in the water, it became clear to me that the radiance of the landscape was completely unmarred by the ugliness of white supremacy, that its beauty and wholeness were beyond the reach of societal violence. And it became clear that the beauty, wholeness, and radiant aliveness I experienced in the landscape were not separate from me.”
Read the full interview here and see more from Splendor.
